Nate Johnson's Bio
California born and raised, I grew up thinking that there was really
only one season that just got a little warmer and colder. I moved a
whole lot growing up and did the every other weekend and summer thing
after my parents were divorced when I was 3. While I grew up with a
religious background, I never really owned my faith until I went off to
college at Humboldt State University as a freshman. I had been searching
for some meaning in the madness and met a guy in my dorm who lived out
his love for Jesus in a way that made sense to me. After running from
Jesus for a few years, I decided that I wanted to be a follower of
Jesus.
In 1997 I went to Heidelberg, Germany to intern with Malachi for a
summer between semesters at Biola University. I worked with Josh Patty
as an intern for the middle school students there and discovered that I
loved military kids. I walked away from that summer convinced in the
power of relational ministry and disciple making. I realized that
military ministry is vital and that it was the most strategic way for me
to see students come to know Christ and to make disciples that would
impact a generation for Jesus. (I also met the incredible woman who is
now my wife on that trip too.)
In 2000, my wife Louise and I started our first full-time assignment
with Malachi in Wiesbaden, Germany. We served there for 5 glorious
years. We loved our students and staff more than words can convey. While
there, we also learned that one of my areas of giftedness is working
with interns, staff, and equipping leaders. We had a number of interns
with our ministry. We began to see the vision of being an equipping
university where we empower people to test their wings and grow into
ministry. In 2005, God moved us to Yokosuka, Japan where we now work
with Navy kids.
My wife Louise and I have been married for 8 years and have 3 girls,
Ellie, Kara, and Krista. They are a true joy and blessing. When given
the opportunity, I love to escape my home world of pink clothes and
dolls to go golfing, go karting, listen to my Ipod, blog, watch LOST
with my wife, or sit down with a friend over a good meal and talk.
