I grew up in a military family and that is a lot of the reason that my wife Jen and I felt called to serve in Malachi. Before my junior year of high school my family moved to Pirmasens, Germany where I got involved in the Malachi youth group. One of my friends told me, “This place is like a God factory.” Because God got a hold of so many student’s lives during that time.
That has always been something that has appealed to me in the military community. There is an honest searching by people and when they find Christ they are willing to give their whole lives to serve him.
We spent 6 ½ years in Okinawa, Japan and currently we are heading on a deputation trail of a different sort. Our desire is to have the first Discipleship house in Malachi where students would come live with us for a week at a time. That will require a little more support than the average missionary requires. Since the position that Malachi has for us is not opening until the summer of ’08 we are attempting to start a business in one year that will provide the support that we need to run a Discipleship House.
I like to travel and the picture below is of me running around my moving VW Bus on the beach. One of my dreams was to travel around the country (and get to my 50th state in the process ) in the VW, so my wife and I did that before heading to the field. I have a really great wife as well. How many wives would spend almost two months living out of VW that was older than them? I also love to read but that makes a really boring picture and I never think to take a picture of myself reading so just imagine me with a book anywhere. The cool thing about Japan is the traffic is so slow you can actually read while you drive. ☺ I don’t recommend it for America though.
